My Eyes Open

My Eyes Open
by Kern F. Little

mornings
broken
faint smell
vanilla soap
wet hair
perked coffee
my eyes open
to find
a beautiful
green eyed
lady
lookin’
across her
coffee
at me
virtual
reality
new age
Starbucks
maybe
shakin’
my head
thinking it
a dream
shocked
back to
reality
as she
extends
the cup
and says
cream n sugar
for my baby

Cold Water

Cold Water
By Kern F. Little

step taken
ice cracked
cold water
awaits
like a
baptismal
bath
but this
time life be
washed
away
once
again
can
everything
be forgiven
or just
forgotten
as the cold
chases the life
out of me

Just Press Play

Just Press Play
By Kern F. Little

who can
ever just
press play
judgment
awaits
end of
the day
face value
no longer
enough
acts of
faith rarely
good enough
when only
asked to
simply
press play
I hesitated
waited
another day
once a simple
marked path
gone
lost my way
when you’re
asked to
just
press play
do it and
go on
your way

Worry

Worry
By Kern F. Little

dad would
pray his
rosary
mom would
go shopping
I would
bounce a
basketball
all day long

why do
we worry
isn’t it
easier to
except our
fate and
move on

except that
sometimes
bad things
happen to
good people

try not to
fret
try not to
scurry
try to keep
your heart
in check
and yes
my dear
try not to
shed a tear

I don’t
know why
I look
for an
answer
look for
a reason
why
because
at fifty
some I still
worry
and continue
to ask why

She's My Magical Charm

She's My Magical Charm
By Kern F. Little

you tip-toe
past the
bedroom
door
soft snores
fill the air
can it be
such
a surprise
when you
find
out that
your deep
connection
to her is
the magical
charm that
gives you
the ability
to see
into the future
where only
hope and love
respect and trust
choose to be
choose to wait
for those
of faith

Until She Awakes

Until She Awakes
By Kern F. Little

morning
smiles
some alarm
finding
someone
sleeping
in my arms
what a charm
only her grin
between
hair uncurled
and sheets
unfurled
both falling
around us
in swirls
thoughts
of moving
now delayed
because this
oh-so-special
moment
may never
be replayed
smiling
because
if this
be my fate
I’ll lay
here all
day until
she awakes

Lovingly Dedicated to "My Pretty Lady - Vickie!"

A Catholic Lass

A Catholic Lass
By Kern F. Little

thought that
love had
passed me bye
spent a lot
of time
on my knees
asking God
why……
there wasn’t
a lady out
there for me
then along
came Vickie
a Catholic lass
with a few
problems
in her past
but what a
smile
and big family
our past
and problems
forgotten
brighter future
within our grasp
God please
forgive me
for my troubled
past ….and help
us make this
relationship last

Winter Woos

Winter Woos
By Kern F. Little

winter
comes along
milky gray
skies
days get
shorter
depression
on the rise
sub freezing
temps
layers upon
layers of
cloths
all of this
adds up too
winter woos

So Dear (My First Poem Given To Vickie On Our Frst Date 01-12-09

So Dear
by Kern F. Little

we talked
by phone
all night
under
the stars
exchanged
life stories
some brought
cheer and
some a tear
both of our
parents gone
children left
the nest and
now grandchildren
have come along
similaritiws in
our past
eliminated
some fear
days have
past as we
reach out
by calls
texts
chat
and e-mail
nothing
like a miss
said word
or notorious
past deed
has seemed
to cure
the want
that draws
us near
finally a
meetings
arranged
I reach out
and she's
encircled with
my arms
never wanting
to leave go
to a one
I've found
so dear

Touch Of Ireland

By Kern F. Little

solid silver

strong hands

speaking of the strength of friendship

encircling a  heart

speaking of the compassion of love

surmounted by a crown

speaking of the structure of loyalty

Galway call it Claddagh

Claddagh say “Let Love and Friendship Reign!”

I call it “The Corner Stone Of Our Marriage!”

It’s a bridge to our past

And more important steps stones to our future!

To Be Ourselves

To Be Ourselves
By Kern F. Little

guy’s are weird
they either
can’t talk
to gals
as they hide
in fear
or they
turn on
the charm
setting off
all kind
of the ladies’
alarms
ending up
alone
sipping on
a beer
why is it
so hard
to be ourselves
calmly telling
the ladies
our wishes
hopes & fears
and in time
praying it
draws
them near

Some Times

Some Times
By Kern F. Little

some times
we ask
some times
we know
some times
we walk
away solemnly
kicking snow
some times
we wish
some times
we think
some times
we sit
solemnly after
fixing a drink
some times
as you see
depression
can leave you
solemn,
wondering,
alone,
and drinking
is no way
to go
but then
some times
tears can
lead to
smiles
when the
supportive arms
around you
are your
favorite gals

Gome Blank

Gone Blank
By Kern F. Little

blank sheet
blank canvas
blank screen
everything’s blank
nothing’s as
it seems
you know
being left
with nothing
like the choice
between a
crucifixion
and a hanging
what now
may it be
can it be
let it be
realize now
nothing is as
it seems
and life happens
between the
blank and the all
so when things
go blank your
left with silence
instead of nothing
your voice can
cure it all

Once You Give It All

By Kern F. Little

will you give

or hold within

once life takes

will you give

or hold within

once life forces you to remake

will you give

or hold within

once life makes things around you break

will you give

or hold within

once life leaves your mind broke

will you give

or hold within

when life forces you to retrace

retrace and find those baby steps

retrace and begin to relearn

will you listen to the father

will you go to your knees

now that you’ve given till it bleeds

once you do life will reveal

you have no more needs

finally you’ve learned

all you have to do is give

no matter how much you need

all you have to do is give

to ones who need
